Goa Festivals
Goa has its own unique flavor when it
comes to festivals. State's mixed culture reflects in these local festivals.
Every religion has own belief, customs and rituals. All these have given
birth to numerous festivals, which are celebrated here with much gaiety and
merriment. But some festivals have no religious connections they are more
reflects the cultural highlights of Goa rather then the religion. It sees
the highest involvement of people of all religions. Parties and dancing is
an integral part of this festival.
Some of the most important festivals of Goa are given below :

Goa Carnival : Carnival is a non-stop 3-day festival of color, song and
music. For these three days preparations start months before. Regardless of
caste, creed and religion all people of all faith celebrated this festival
with the same enthusiasm. The relaxing ambiance, full of fun- 'n'- frolic,
Carnival provides a healthy wholesome entertainment to all the generations.
During the Carnival all the participant wear colorful costumes and elaborate
masks. People spread color on each other and take part in a mammoth
procession, headed by King Momo. Street Plays, songs, dances, and farces are
performed by the local troops. The folk-plays are a special attribute of
this Carnival.
» New-year Celebration : After carnival this is the second biggest celebration of Goa. Goa celebrates New-Year eve with its inherent party culture, amid fun and frolic. Domestic and International backpackers descend on Goa to lose yourself themselves in the frenzy of the New Year celebrations.
» Shigmo Festival : Shigmo Festival : In Goa, holi is known as Shigmotsav. It is celebrated in the end of the winter as a farewell party of winters. Here Local people welcome spring with colour, songs and dances. Colorful parade and grand feasting are the prime attractions of this colorful festival.
» Christmas : Though, Christmas is a Christian festival but undoubtedly this is the most popular religious festival even amongst the non Christians in Goa. During this festival decorated in shades of red, green and white, the whole state looks like a dream land.
Other Christian festivals include Feast of the Three Kings at Reis Magos, Cuelim (Cansaulim) and Chandor, Feast of Our Lady of Candelaria at Pomburpa, Feast of Jesus Nazareth at Siridao, and Feast of St. Fiancis Xavier at Old Goa are celebrated in here with a great force.
