Kerala Festivals
Festivals,
celebrated in Kerala are colourful. They reflect the beaming joy and spirit
of the people of Kerala. Fanfare, simplicity and inherent religious flavour
are the key features of these festivals. Celebration with a style, is the
main mantra of these regional festivals. Mainly festivals include religious
practices, ritual performances, processions, decorations, gifts, food,
cultural programs and many more. Some of the major festivals of the state are :
» Onam : Kerala's biggest festival, Onam is held in the Malayali month of Chingam (Aug - Sep). This festival marks the homecoming of legendary King Mahabali. Onam lasts for ten days. You can see the best of Kerala culture and tradition during this festival. Intricately decorated Pookalam, ambrosial Onasadya, breathtaking Snake Boat Race and exotic Kaikottikali dance are some indivisible part of Onam.
» Boat Festivals : On the pictorial backwaters of Kerala, fierce Vallom Kallies (boat races) and water carnivals are being organized. These water carnivals and snake boat races are held, one week before the great festival Onam. Some famous boat race competitions are Boat races and processions at Ambalapuzha (July), Nehru Trophy boat race (August), Boat races at Thalavady (Alappuzha), Mannar, Aranmula, and Thiruvandoor boat races.

temple festival is celebrated during the month of April-May every year. The
highlight of the temple festival is the exhibition of the idols of two
temples in Thrissur on lofty elephants. Spirited percussion drumming,
